VLC Player for Android Coming In Early 2011!

The application is to be release in a couple of weeks

For more than half a year, Android has been omnipresent in the mobile OS market. If you already jumped in the Android users' bandwagon, then you have all the reasons to look out for the upcoming release of the highly popular VLC player, expected to become available in Q1 2011.

Rumor has it that the VLC development team is wrapping up on the codebase of the application. According to lead VLC developer Jean-Baptiste Kempf , the clock is ticking away for the application's release, scheduled sometime in the following weeks.

During the past years, VLC has been an important player on the video player market.

Highly versatile and lightweight, VLC player is currently available on all major operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

The upcoming availability for Android will be the second mobile release, after the successful launch of a binary for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the iPod touches in September.

As far as the early news claim, the developers have encountered some difficulties with the integration of Android's multimedia libraries, which are mostly written in Oracle's Java. However, the recently-available NDK for Android makes it extremely easy for developers to integrate their codebase with the mobile operating system.
