Android-Powered Altek Leo Comes with 14 MP Camera

The touch-screen smartphone can record HD movies, along others

Ever since it got leaked a couple of months ago, the Altek Leo smartphone has been regarded with a lot of suspicion. And this is not because its manufacturer isn't as famous as Nokia or its competitors of the kind, but because the phone was touted to set a new record in terms of camera performance.

The company has finally introduced the Leo officially, along with the full technical specifications. Powered by Google's Android 2.1 mobile platform, the handset features the much-anticipated 14-megapixel camera that is built around Altek's Sunny 9 digital image processor.

“You want to be able to capture those precious moments anytime and anywhere, and Leo is the device that lets you do just that.
” said Alex Hsia, Altek's CEO. “Leo is the product of design know-how that comes from years of creating breakthroughs at altek in digital imaging technology, integrated with most advanced Android smartphone system,”  he continued.

The configuration is complemented by a  3.2-inch WVGA multi-touch capable touchscreen, while the connectivity options are covered through the addition of a Wi-Fi / Bluetooth card, as well as the now-conventional 3.5G (HSPA/WCDMA) wireless. If you need more "juice" for whatever you're planning to surf to, then you should know that the device also supports 5.76mbps HSUPA or 7.2mbps HSDPA.

If you're more on the road, the Leo is also available to guide you via the built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support, digital compass, and accelerometer. The phone supports maximum 32GB of flash memory in the form of a MicroSD card, which should suffice both for the GPS maps and for the pictures or videos you may plan to take.
